Time and again we hear politicians brand themselves as "secular" and that they serve every community with equal attention.!. We need to ruminate as to what being secular means.
Wikipedia says this
"Secularity (adjective form secular,[1] from Latin saecularis meaning "worldly" or "temporal") is the state of being separate from religion, or not being exclusively allied or against any particular religion."
Not being exclusively allied or against any particular religion is the crux of the definition here.
India is a secular country, but every election is contested based on religion or caste, which is against the fundamental fabric of our society.
Reservations :
I simply fail to fathom the concept of reservations everywhere!. So called Backward people ( I abhor this term, such terms make people belonging to that particular caste weak and suppressed.)
Now they get 7 attempts to clear the IAS, reservations in IIT, IIM, jobs and quite recently our politicians have passed a bill to implement reservations in promotions!Where is all this leading to?
In what way are the so called " Back ward classes" different from other cast people? They get the same education , same opportunities. Why do they need crutches all along their life?Is this what secularism is all about. Is not India allied against the back ward class people and against other castes?
This class system was created by the British to oppress Indians to create a level of hated amongst us , so that they can employ the divide and rule policy efficiently. They have succeeded in the past and are still now!
This is the statement by the Prime Minister of India
"Muslims should have the first claim on the country's resources.",
Is this secularism? This is display of vote bank politics.
I vehemently oppose such policies which were framed 300 years ago. We need policies which resonate with current times.
If India has to prosper , you can have reservations based on monetary and financial status but not on cast, creed or color.
